Disability Awareness Training

Disability awareness and inclusion training is not about pity or charity. It is about recognising rights, promoting equity, and ensuring that workplaces and communities are designed so that disabled people can participate fully and equally.

Employers and service providers have statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010 to prevent discrimination and make reasonable adjustments. Failing to comply can result in legal claims, financial penalties, and reputational harm.

About this Disability Awareness training course

According to the Family Resources Survey (2023), around 16 million people in the UK — nearly a quarter of the population — are disabled under the Equality Act 2010 definition.

Disabilities can be visible or invisible, permanent or fluctuating, physical, sensory, cognitive, or mental health-related.

Despite these numbers, many people with disabilities still face barriers in employment, education, and daily life. Barriers are often created not by the disability itself, but by environments, policies, and attitudes that are designed with non-disabled assumptions in mind. This idea is central to the social model of disability, which has been influential in UK disability rights movements. It shifts focus away from “what is wrong with the person” and towards “what needs to change in society to ensure inclusion.”
