Health and safety training for Red-Penguin Group

As a leading SME manufacturer of sign, print, display and merchandise products Red-Penguin Group have what it takes to help brands get noticed.

We caught up with Robin Jackson, owner and Managing Director at Red-Penguin, to understand a little bit more about how moving online with ClickHSE has helped them ensure their statutory health and safety training compliance requirements are delivered easily and cost-effectively across their teams.

AT&F - What does your role involve on a typical day?

Robin - As a Managing Director running a group of very busy and diverse workshops covering custom signs, stickers and branded workwear for a variety of nationwide clients no day is the same is there isn’t really a typical day apart from there aren’t normally enough working hours due to the variety of things I manage.

Briefly describe you workforce to give us a feel for how your staff are split across office and production?

A minimum of 7 staff within various departments which we increase when required.  We have 3 people in Graphic Design, with Marketing and Admin also being 3, a further person in our Accounts Dept and then an external team of installers that cover sign installation, vehicle wrapping and window graphs installation.

Why is health and safety training important to you at Red-Penguin?

Due to the nature of our custom sign installation work a large amount of our time is spent onsite with numerous companies that require our specialist skills, such as Jaguar Land Rover.

As a result we are proactive across all teams when it comes to health and safety training, not just our installation team. We make sure the training we provide to our staff is suitable and sufficient and will also stand up to any scrutiny from our clients if it is ever required.

As Managing Director I also have a duty of care and my obligation to commit to health and safety in the workplace is something I am proud to take very seriously.

How did you provide training before you found the ClickHSE training platform?

To be perfectly honest our previous training provision was predominantly done in-house or by external trainers but I found that it lacked certain areas of content as we are not subject matter experts across all topics.

On attaining our ISO9001 and ISO14001 accreditations it also highlighted the importance of where we needed to be as a company as part of our processes.

With the guidance from AT&F Solutions we were able to become fully compliant. Not only was the training more diverse and accessible it helped review the various risk assessments we have within the company.

Why did you look into online training?

The options for online health and safety training enabled us to be more much more flexible fitting in training at times suitable for our teams to manage their workload.  As an SME having the ability to catch up with training at any time/ any place also has great benefits.

How does our online training platform provide benefits to you in your role as MD and to Red-Penguin overall?

As intimated, at Red-Penguin as with most SMEs time is precious when working in a very busy environment, once my staff are registered on the platform their training sessions can be started at any time suitable to them; being self-paced also releases free time back to me… now with a simple mouse click I can inspect all staff progress and compliancy within seconds.  It’s really is the ultimate tool for saving against company downtime and costs all in one.

That’s great to hear! Ok, so before we wrap up what is the one thing you like or use the most with our platform?

The main bonus for me is having all of our training in one very easy-to-use system.  I can also track, record and upload any associated training material relevant to maintaining the health and safety of my staff in the same place which is great.
