An insight into going online with construction health and safety awareness training

Health and Safety training is a critical daily requirement for firms in the construction industry. With the ever growing emphasis on employee safety during the current COVID-19 pandemic having training in place is something that has jumped right to the top of many business managers to-do lists!

A great example of a business that goes the extra mile to deliver exceptional safety training for their team members is CJS Recruitment who are a leading provider of CSCS accredited construction professionals and trades people to contractors in London, Surrey, Kent and throughout the UK.

By providing a tailored personal service to construction recruitment requests CJS has exceptionally high standards and understands the importance of taking health and safety seriously.

This ensures not just satisfied returning clients for CJS but workers who are empowered to make the correct decisions whilst on construction sites across the South East and beyond.

CJS have used our online training platform for some time to streamline staff training, delivering compliance courses remotely via a wide range of accredited eLearning courses.

We caught up with Amy Longhurst, a recruitment consultant at CJS Recruitment for a quick Q&A session to learn more about how they quickly and successfully put everything training in place:

Amy’s holds an important role at CJS and most days are busy and varied attending to bookings, dealing with any new clients, speaking to their operatives and clients, ensuring compliance and managing any health and safety documentation.

Alongside this Amy also plans and issues the required construction training courses to operatives in line with their role requirements.

With total staff numbers normally sitting at over 100 and with new site personnel frequently joining due to the nature of the industry, managing certificates from various providers could have easily become a job in itself!

Amy told us that…

Health and Safety training is important to us as we work in the Construction Industry, which is classed as a high risk environment, requires adherence to guidelines setup by the Heath and Safety Executive and before our operatives attend sites we have to ensure their H&S training is relevant and in date.

Offering additional training to our operatives is also of huge importance to us and helps ensure they have the knowledge to keep safe and well at all times.

Before using ClickHSE we used various training companies online but this required our operatives to pay individually and we were unable to centralise everything in one platform.

One of my goals was to find a single place where we could offer all of our compliance training from which we could also monitor quickly and easily to see when and how each operative is doing.

Finding ClickHSE has benefited us massively! We are now able to monitor and track everyone’s progress wherever they are. As the team at head office have also completed the training we are able to offer help and advice when required to our operatives.

Also printing of certificates used to be hard for our Operatives as they had to print out and then send these over to us but now everything is done instantly in the cloud and lands within my ClickHSE management dashboard the moment someone has completed a course”

Our summary

CJS clearly know a thing or two about both construction site staff and health & training and it shows.

Construction is often viewed as very hands-on with face-to-face training being the go to model uses but it is often not the case for more general compliance training needs.

At AT&F we always promote a blended approach, meaning that there is a place for online training via eLearning alongside traditional live training sessions.

By taking a proactive approach with a blended training model you can reduce both downtime and cost, whilst improving your staffs knowledge and overall safety awareness!

Which essentially is what it is all about - whichever side of the table you are sat at.
